Lakme Fashion Week 2022 Dates

The FDCI x Lakme Fashion Week 2022, a highly anticipated event, took place in March at Delhi’s Dhyanchand National Stadium. This marked the first physical fashion week after two years of digital showcases and a significant reunion between the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) and Lakme after 17 years. The event spanned six days and featured 42 shows, showcasing a diverse range of designers, models, Bollywood stars, and social media influencers.

Varun Bahl presented “Quintessential,” a collection of royalty-inspired bridal and festive outfits emphasizing sustainability and upcycled embroidery. The collection catered to the modern bride’s preference for experimental and minimal looks.

Shantnu and Nikhil showcased a futuristic, nature-inspired collection featuring fringe, tassels, and cut-outs, reflecting gender fluidity and incorporating streetwear influences with a hip-hop soundtrack.

JJ Valaya celebrated 30 years in the industry by launching JJV, a bridge-to-luxury brand inspired by Maharaja Jagatjit Singh’s travels. The collection utilized Tencel Luxe, a modern, eco-friendly fabric offering lightness, lustre, and a luxurious feel.

Payal Pratap’s “Java” collection drew inspiration from Indonesian Batik techniques and vibrant prints in muted colors, aiming to empower women through their clothing.

Rajesh Pratap Singh, at the helm of Satya Paul, presented “New Order,” a collection blending his minimalist style with the label’s essence. The collection featured smart, sustainable fabrics provided by R|Elan, designed for evening wear.

Eshaa Amiin focused on athleisure with a feminine vibe, targeting Gen-Z with comfortable yet statement-making clothing.

Huemn showcased streetwear with unique prints of human faces and graffiti, highlighting Indian street style with a lungi-inspired garment.

Ashish N Soni celebrated 30 years with a collection of prints and bright color-blocking, using stark lines to represent the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Rimzim Dadu’s “A Sea of Million Stories” featured voluminous structural drapes, celebrating love and encouraging connection beyond social media.

Manish Malhotra’s collection, inspired by Bollywood and his 32 years in the industry, showcased sequin-heavy designs and cut-outs, even in streetwear, with Gen-Z muses Siddhant Chaturvedi and Shanaya Kapoor.

Ranna Gill presented a bohemian collection inspired by Marrakech, incorporating thread embroidery and subtle prints evocative of Moroccan aesthetics. The collection was designed for the modern traveler.

Ananya Modi Jain, winner of the NBA 75 streetwear design contest, showcased athleisure designs reflecting the evolution of basketball.

Pankaj and Nidhi’s “Marbella” collection featured vibrant prints and sequins, inspired by the Spanish city and designed for vacation and evening events. The collection highlighted the designers’ consistent theme of travel.

Suneet Varma presented a signature collection in red and black, aiming for a sexy yet wearable style that maintained a modern and urban feel.

Pawan Sachdeva’s menswear line pushed boundaries with fabrics and colors while maintaining classic cuts and silhouettes, emphasizing comfort and relaxation as key elements of style.

Falguni and Shane Peacock concluded the event with “Earth Bound,” a futuristic grand finale featuring sequins and drama, inspired by Lakme’s new line of eye pencils and symbolizing a return to normalcy after the pandemic.
