New York Fashion Week 2017 was a whirlwind of activity, especially behind the scenes. As a dresser for three major shows – Carolina Herrera, Coach, and Delpoza – I experienced the organized chaos firsthand. From intricate quick changes to celebrity sightings, here’s a glimpse into my backstage experience.
The Fast-Paced World of Fashion Week Dressing
Dressing for New York Fashion Week is a unique challenge. Unlike Broadway costumes designed for durability, high-fashion garments are often delicate, requiring careful handling during rapid quick changes. Imagine changing a model’s entire look in under twenty seconds – it’s an adrenaline rush! This season, with shows like Coach featuring sixty models, some even showcasing two looks, the scale of these productions was immense.
Behind the Scenes at Coach, Carolina Herrera, and Delpoza
My New York Fashion Week 2017 journey began with Carolina Herrera, followed by Coach, and concluded with Delpoza. Each show presented its own unique atmosphere and challenges. At Coach, the sheer number of models and the quick change demands kept us on our toes. Backstage was a hive of activity, with dressers, stylists, and models working in perfect synchronization.
Celebrity Encounters and Unforgettable Moments
The excitement of New York Fashion Week 2017 wasn’t just about the clothes. Unexpected celebrity encounters added to the thrill. While prepping my rack at Coach, James Franco walked right by! It’s moments like these that make Fashion Week so memorable. Earlier in my career, during my first show at Calvin Klein, I witnessed Anna Wintour reviewing the collection up close and even saw Kendall Jenner prepare for her walk.
The Thrill of the Runway
From the meticulous preparation to the final walk on the runway, New York Fashion Week 2017 was an unforgettable experience. The energy backstage, the pressure of quick changes, and the glimpses of the fashion elite create a unique and exhilarating atmosphere. The childlike wonder and adrenaline I feel before each show are something I hope never fades. It’s a privilege to be a part of the magic that is New York Fashion Week.
