Girls Fashion Design: Unleashing Creativity at TWU Fashion Camps

It is never too early to ignite a passion for fashion design! Texas Woman’s University (TWU) offers unique Fashion Design Camps held on the beautiful Denton campus in North Texas. These five-day immersive experiences provide young girls with the opportunity to delve into the world of fashion, learning essential skills like sewing and apparel construction. The curriculum also encompasses exciting projects in fashion sketching, trend board creation, design concepts, textiles, color theory, and even fashion show production. Campers engage in a variety of these activities daily, with scheduled breaks and lunch periods to ensure a balanced and enjoyable learning environment. TWU’s esteemed Fashion program faculty and local fashion industry professionals lead the instruction, assisted by talented undergraduate fashion students who provide personalized guidance and support to each camper.

TWU Fashion Camps cater to different age groups, recognizing the varying interests, attention spans, and skill levels of young learners. Currently, three distinct Fashion Design Camps are scheduled for Summer 2025:

  • Teen Fashion Design Camp (Ages 13-18): June 9-13 & July 7-11
  • Junior Fashion Design Camp (Ages 9-13): June 22-27

The comprehensive camp experience, priced at $595, covers lunches, snacks, water, all necessary supplies for various projects, expert instruction, a commemorative camp T-shirt, and administrative fees. While scholarships are not available, the value of the immersive learning experience and the high-quality materials provided ensures a worthwhile investment in a young designer’s future.

Each Fashion Design Camp spans five days, Monday through Friday, with daily activities from 8:45 AM to 5:00 PM. Friday culminates in a mini fashion show and reception (2:00 PM – 4:00 PM), showcasing the campers’ creations to family and friends.

Camp activities primarily take place in the historic Old Main Building, the original structure on the TWU campus and home to the Fashion program since 1903. Campers enjoy lunches in the TWU Dining Hall, offering diverse menu options, or from local restaurants served in a designated break room. Dietary restrictions and special needs are accommodated, allowing campers to bring their own meals if necessary.

With a limited enrollment of 20 campers per session, individual attention and hands-on learning are prioritized. All instructors and student assistants undergo thorough background checks and child protection training, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment. Constant supervision is maintained, adhering to university requirements and preventing unsupervised free time.

Campers are permitted to bring electronic devices but are encouraged to limit their use during sessions to minimize distractions and potential loss or damage. Photography is allowed at designated times for sharing memories with family and friends. Perfumes, colognes, and scented products are discouraged due to potential sensitivities. Smoking and vaping are strictly prohibited on campus. Appropriate behavior is expected at all times, with disruptive campers subject to dismissal without refund.

Campers need to bring a few personal sewing notions, scissors, and clothing/accessories for the fashion show. A detailed supply list is provided after registration. Immunization records are required before camp attendance, and specific COVID-19 protocols are in place to ensure the health and safety of all participants. Face coverings are optional for campers but may be worn by vaccinated staff members. Medication administration for minors requires prior arrangements with the Camp Director.

An optional Overnight Lodging Package is available for $380 (double occupancy) or $400 (single occupancy). This includes five nights of accommodation (Sunday-Thursday), meals, and supervised activities. Female and male campers are housed separately. Personal bedding is required. Disruptive behavior in the dormitory may result in dismissal without a refund.

Cancellations made 15 days or more before the camp start date are eligible for a partial refund, minus a $150 fee for day camp or a $60 fee for the overnight package. Within 14 days of the start date, partial refunds are contingent on waitlist replacements. No refunds are issued after the camp begins. All refunds are processed via the original payment method. TWU reserves the right to cancel camps due to insufficient enrollment or unforeseen circumstances, in which case a full refund will be issued.

Online registration for Summer 2025 Fashion Camps and the Overnight Lodging Package opens on February 1, 2025, at 9:00 AM. Payment is accepted via debit or credit card only. Confirmation and detailed information emails are sent upon registration and two weeks prior to the camp start date. For inquiries, contact Dr. Anna Magie at [email protected] or 940-898-2671. Separate registration links are provided for Day Camp, Overnight Lodging, and waitlists for each camp.
