While College for Creative Studies (CCS) in Detroit didn’t offer a comprehensive fashion design program at the time, Sui’s determination led her to New York. Interestingly, CCS now boasts a thriving Fashion Design program, established in 2015 and expanded in 2021 under the leadership of renowned footwear and accessories designer Aki Choklat. Sui, acknowledging the program’s importance, serves on its advisory council and has established the Anna Sui Endowed Scholarship to support aspiring designers.

Sui’s career took off when she launched her own label in 1981, followed by the opening of her first boutique in Soho in 1992.
