Harkins Theatres, known for its buttery popcorn and movie screenings, is set to expand its entertainment offerings at Chandler Fashion Center mall with a new multi-entertainment concept called Harkins Backlot. This 64,000-square-foot venue will occupy the former Sears space on the upper level of the mall, transforming it into a comprehensive entertainment destination.
Harkins Backlot will feature a diverse range of attractions, including a laser tag arena, bowling alleys (including duckpin bowling), a vintage arcade with a redemption area, and sports simulators for interactive gaming experiences.

Beyond the gaming and entertainment options, Harkins Backlot will also include a full-service bar and restaurant, a dedicated dining area, private party rooms for events and gatherings, and an outdoor patio featuring backyard-style games like giant cup pong. This combination of entertainment and dining aims to provide a complete leisure experience for visitors of all ages.
The project, initially reported in 2019, has recently gained momentum with detailed plans and artist renderings filed with the City of Chandler’s planning department. The renderings showcase the modern design and layout of the proposed entertainment complex, highlighting the various activity zones and amenities.

While the project awaits city approval and an official start date for construction hasn’t been announced, the potential opening of Harkins Backlot represents a significant addition to Chandler Fashion Center’s attractions. The mall currently houses a traditional Harkins movie theater, Crayola Experience, Escape The Room, and PLAYlive Nation, making it a hub for entertainment options. The addition of Harkins Backlot would solidify Chandler Fashion Center as a premier entertainment destination in the East Valley, offering a comprehensive mix of experiences for families, friends, and individuals. Harkins Theatres continues to invest in enhancing its entertainment offerings, with recent renovations to several Arizona theaters and the planned opening of a new 12-screen cinema in Laveen.
