Capital One Cafe at Fashion Square mall in Scottsdale is partnering with Blue Zones Project to sponsor a free 10-week indoor walking group. Starting August 7th and running through October 9th, the “Indoor Walking Moai” will meet every Wednesday morning from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM. Participants can enjoy free coffee courtesy of Capital One Cafe and a chance to win weekly restaurant gift cards and grand prizes.
This program aims to foster a healthier and more connected community in Scottsdale by encouraging physical activity and social interaction. The air-conditioned comfort of Fashion Square provides a welcome respite from the Arizona heat, allowing participants to walk and talk together for an hour each week. Capital One Cafe’s involvement underscores its commitment to community well-being.
The concept of a “Moai,” pronounced “moh-eye,” draws inspiration from the social support groups found in Okinawa, Japan, one of the world’s “blue zones” known for longevity and well-being. These groups provide a sense of belonging, shared experiences, and mutual support. The Indoor Walking Moai at Scottsdale Fashion Square embodies this spirit, providing a platform for connection and encouragement.
Each week, attendees will receive a complimentary coffee from Capital One Cafe at Fashion Square and entry into a raffle for a $50 gift card redeemable at any of the mall’s diverse dining establishments. Participants who complete all 10 sessions will receive a special Capital One Cafe swag bag and have the opportunity to win a $100 prize courtesy of Scottsdale Fashion Square. The walking group meets at the east wing rotunda near Lululemon, H&M, and Lucid Motors. Enter the mall on the first floor between Moxies and Shake Shack.
Blue Zones Project, the driving force behind this initiative, works with communities nationwide to implement sustainable changes that promote healthier lifestyles. Based on research by National Geographic Fellow Dan Buettner, the project focuses on environmental, policy, and social network modifications to facilitate healthier choices.
Scottsdale Fashion Square, a premier shopping destination with nearly 200 shops and restaurants, provides an ideal venue for this community-focused program. The mall’s recent expansion further enhances its luxury offerings and reinforces its position as a central hub in Scottsdale.
